ENGLISH I (3001) 1 credit - An introduction to literature through the study of short stories, drama, poetry, and essays. Relation to daily life through character studies and expository as well as creative writing help the student to grow personally. Review of basic grammar skills and introductory units on applying these skills.
ENGLISH II (3002) 1 credit (a Gateway Exam course) The skills of thinking, listening, speaking, reading, and writing are emphasized. Students will study literary units on short stories, non-fiction, drama, and poetry.
ENGLISH III (3003) 1 credit - Emphasis of grammar study and application of acquired knowledge in writing paragraphs, essays, resumes, cover letters, and job interview practice. Literature includes American short stories and poetry.
ENGLISH IV (3004) 1 credit - Designed for both college and non-college bound students. The focus is on English literature from early to modern times, composition, writing, and written grammar skills.ENGLISH (3099) 1 credit - Basic level of English, designed to an individualized educational program.
AP ENGLISH IV (3013) 1 credit - This is a college preparatory course which stress composition and literary analysis. Students are expected to take the Advance Placement Exam in May. Prerequisite: Permission of the teacher.

HONORS ENGLISH III AND CP IV (3003A/3004A) 1 credit - This course is for the SERIOUS college-bound student. It includes intensive vocabulary study, journal writing, creative writing, paragraph development essay writing, and research writing. There are both oral and written reports. The literature in Advance English III is a survey of American literature. British literature will be emphasized in Advance English IV. Students must maintain a B average in the previous English class and have teacher recommendation to take this class.
COMMUNICATIONS FOR LIFE (3007)
1 credit - A vocational education course which counts for Senior English credit. It is intended primarily for seniors who plan to attend a two year post-secondary school or enter the work place upon completion of high school. Communicating in the workplace; participating in groups; following and writing directions; and electronic communication will be emphasized.
JOURNALISM/YEARBOOK (3008) 1 credit - In this course the student will gain hands on experience in producing the school annual from a business, language and artistic perspective. In addition the school newspaper will be published and distributed on a quarterly basis. Permission of teacher, max of 12 students. |
