In the fall of 2006 Teresa Layman and Kris Peterson put together a cross curricular unit of study, between Culinary Arts and Graphic Arts, on how to design and execute an advertising campaign. The got milk ad campaign was used as a model for this study. After a very successful lesson we had the good fortune of meeting one of our own regional dairy farmers, Randy Davis, who told us about SUDIA and how they might be able to help us with our campaign next year. Thanks to a $5,000 grant from our friends at the Southeast United Dairy Association we are once again working on the Got Milk Ad Campaign but we are expanding the lesson to include not only our faculty members as poster models but other local school principals. We are taking 100 students to the Mayfield Processing Plant and the Cheese Factory in Philadelphia, TN.
Chef Jon Ashton Visits LHS
British born TV chef Jon Ashton spent the day with us in September 2006. Our friends from SUDIA arranged the visit. Jon shared his love for food and concern about teen nutrition by showing students how to include 3 servings of dairy each day in their diet. He taught students how to make delicious cheesy chicken fingers and strawberry smoothies. In between the 2 cooking sessions he also volunteered to be the subject of a got milk poster for the got milk ad campaign. We all had a fantastic time and hope Chef Ashton will come back again some day. Be sure to visit his website to see more delicious recipes for good health and good eating.
