Lady Redskins in the News

- Lady Redskins power past McMinn... (3/17/08)

Lady Redskins vs. CAK
4-23-08
by Larry Strange

A someone once said... Tuesday afternoon the Lady Redskins travedled to CAK to complete our two game set with the Lady Warriors and even our series at 1 and 1.

In a very calm and cool manner the Lady Redskins disected the CAK pitching and defense pounding out 11 runs on 13 hits and adding 5 stolen bases in 5 attempts.

Led by the pitching of Tara Crass, (10-4) as well as her timely hitting (3 for 4) along with 2 for 4 efforts from Erikka Hardy (HR, 2B), Stephanie Navarro (2 singles), Sara Allen (2 more singles), and C C Kuenzel (a single and a double), the Lady Warriors were out of the contest after the third inning. Tara struck out 10, walked 3 and allowed only 5 hits in 7 innings of work.

The lone run scored by CAK was unearned as it scored on a errant throw to home from the infield. Revenge, hot or cold, is very sweet. :)

Thursday Kingston comes to visit with revenge on their minds.  Losers to the Lady Redskins at their home field two plus weeks ago, by the score of 4 to 2, they will be gunning to return the favor.  This is our last District contest and it should be a great one!  Kingston is easily the 3rd best team in District 4AA this year, behind Stone Memorial and us, and a win here would be very valuable as we prepare for the District tournament.

Come out and cheer ours girls on...the weather should be ideal and the action will be intense!

It's what fastpitch is all about! Hope to see you there! Coach Strange

  Lady Redskins beat Anderson Co.
4-16-08
by Larry Strange

Yep, we did it again...not as bad this time, just 8 to 2, but anytime you can sweep Anderson County... it's a good thing!  Tara Crass was not her self tonight, not feeling well, but still managed to limit the Lady Mavericks to 7 hits,  and two runs, while we committed 5 errors.  Tara still struck out 9 and added a 3 run homer in the first followed by a double and a single later in the game, making her 3 for 4 at the plate.  I hope she gets that kind of sick often! (not really) Laycee Small continued to rip the ball everywhere going 2 for 4 with a walk, scoring two runs, driving in two more and stealing a base. Kelly Franks again contributed two singles in four trips to the plate and Hannah Kiser added a double, a single, and 2 stolen bases.

We had a very good crowd for the game and the girls really appreciated it. After the game ended the team went over to the stands and thanked everyone for coming!  It means a LOT to them to see friends, teachers, and classmates in the stands.

The Junior varsity won 7 to 6 in four innings. Hannah Kiser pitched two innings, Kelly Franks one inning and Kaycee Harvey pitched an inning. Kiser gets her 4th win of the season.

Tomorrow we travel to Stone Memorial to hopefully defeat them for the second time this season which will almost lock up our first place standing in District 4AA. In order not to finish first we would have to lose to Stone plus one of either Kingston or CAK. We currently stand at 8 and 1 in the district with 3 games to play.

We are 13 and 6 overall this year.

Lady Redskins power past McMinn Central
By: Dewey Morgan

The power display continued for a second game Thursday in Loudon as the Lady Redskins knocked around McMinn Central pitching for a 13-3 win. After Hannah Kiser led the game off with an out, senior Kaycee Harvey tripled. She wasn't on base long as the next batter, Lacy Small, drove her in with a single. Small eventually came around to score and give Loudon a 2-0 lead. After Central scored two runs to tie the game in the bottom of the first, the Lady Redskin offense put the game away. Back to back singles, followed by a hit-by-pitch, loaded the bases for Kiser, who reached on an error and drove in a run. After a Harvey flyout, Small singled in a couple of runs and then Tara Crass lifted off to give the hosts an 8-2 lead. Lady Redskin starter Kelly Franks allowed her final run of the game in the bottom of the second, as the Lady Chargers closed to within five, but Loudon pitching shut down the visiting offense the remainder of the game. The Loudon offense was held scoreless in the third, but posted three more runs in the fourth. Harvey reached on a walk with one out before Small cranked a two-run shot. Crass then drove out her second homer of the day on a full count to put the hosts up 11-3. Crass and Navarro accounted for the final two runs of the game in the sixth to put the mercy rule into effect. Franks picked up the win, throwing four innings and allowing three runs on five hits. She walked noone and K'd three. Brittany Rogers relieved Franks in the fifth, allowing no runs on one walk and three strikeouts. The Lady Redskins took part in the Meigs County Tournament over the weekend and will return to action Friday at Soddy Daisy.

They'll open the Soddy Daisy Tournament against Brentwood High School at 10:30 a.m.
