Historic Loudon County coloring book project
by Kris Peterson
In honor of the 150th anniversary of Loudon County, twenty art students from Loudon County schools created drawings for a 2nd edition of the Historic Loudon County Coloring Book. The first edition was made by Lenoir City high school student Jessie Marley in 1979.

Cindy Benefield and Beverly Sweeney, members of the Sesquicentennial Celebration committee, meet in October with LHS design teacher Kris Peterson to ask if she would coordinate the project. On December 17th the first proof was delivered to Mrs. Benefield and Committee Chairman Bo Carey. The book will be published in the spring of 2020 and given to children through the public libraries of Loudon County in celebration of the county’s 150th Anniversary.
A celebration kickoff party will be held at the Lenoir City Public Library to honor all of the student artists sometime in late spring 2020 after the book has been printed. The artists will receive an honorary copy of the book and sign one of the coloring books for placement in the County’s 150th Anniversary time capsule.
