Welcome to Visual Art!
I'm so excited to enter my 6th year as an art educator and 2nd year at Loudon High School! I am the Art I and Advanced Art teacher in the Fine Arts Dept. I have a B.A. of Art from Harding University. Fine Arts is a passion I have in life. I want the students of LHS to grow in their understanding and appreciation for what the arts can do for cultures, societies, and history around the world.

Supply List 2020-2021
Art 1 and Advanced Art
Each student must provide:
these supplies can be found at walmart, target, hobby lobby, amazon, michael's, Jerry's Artarama
- HB, 2B, 4B, 6B Pencils (1 each)
- (1) Kneaded eraser and/or (1) gum/rubber eraser
- (1) folder
- (1) Sketchbook/sketchpad (they range from 24-100 pages for drawing, taking notes, sketching, designs). These can be found as low as $3 - $5. Popular brands are: Strathmore, Blick, Dahler Rowney, Nasco, Pacon, Canson, Artist's Loft
- (1) glue bottle
- (1) Box of tissues
- (1) hand soap

Art I – Fall 2019

Planning – 3rd block: 12:30-1:50
Course Description
Welcome to Art I! In this class, the student will create art projects, learn art vocabulary and art history, critique art pieces, connect art to their lives, and work with a variety of art materials. The Tennessee Academic Standards for Fine Arts focused on Visual Arts will be the framework for this course. These include create, present, respond, and connect.
The student will receive 1 credit hour towards 1 fine art credit for graduation.
Art Making
The student will explore:
- Drawing
- Painting
- Weaving
- Sculpture
- Ceramics
This includes several art history time periods, vocabulary associated with each, and an art project for each one.
Required Materials
- Pencils/erasers for writing
- School laptop
- Folder (to keep lessons, quizzes, tests, reviews, notes)
Grading System following
- 50% projects (3-5 projects you will be given a rubric for each one).
- 15% Classwork/homework (daily)
- 10% participation (daily)
- 10% quizzes (every Friday)
- 15% tests (including final) you will receive study guides.
Class Rules
- Be on time, on task, and prepared to work/learn
- Respect the art environment (classroom, teacher, other students)
- Cell phones/laptops used only when directed by the teacher.
Consequences
- Quick reminder
- Conference with teacher
- Call/email parents
- Discipline referral
- Office
Tardy and Attendance
- 3 tardies – parent email/phone, 4 tardies – write-up
- Be here and on time as much as possible. Your grade and your growth in art depend on it.
- If you miss a class, you must get an admit slip from the front office before returning to class.
- You are in charge of your grade. You must check on missed assignments, tests, quizzes.
Safety and Materials
- We explore various materials/tools during art. It is important to understand and carry out all instructions safely regarding each material.
- If you are unsafe with materials used in art, you will be dismissed from the art room immediately to the office and you will have to do an alternative assignment for that project (grade will be affected).
Cell Phone Policy
- Cell phones will be allowed under certain circumstances.
- Cell phones will only be used during studio work time, with headphones/earbuds in for MUSIC purposes ONLY (no youtube videos, social media).
- Phones will be taken up if used inappropriately and a 0 will be given for participation for that day.
How to succeed in Art I
- Participate
- Be kind and respectful
- Be safe!
- Do the work required
- Ask for help
- Show effort on the projects/tests/quizzes
- Be yourself
